‘Master of Martial Hearts’ (2010)

I have been seriously rediscovering my love for anime lately after blazing through all the live-action series that held any kind of interest to me. When I came across a film titled “Master of Martial Hearts”, I had to check it out. Why? Because chicks battling it out in tiny school girl uniforms is awesome.

Aya Iseshima is just a normal school girl before she stumbles upon a wicked female flight attendant duking it out with a lonely young priestess. When Aya steps in to protect the priestess, we are introduced to a very fun fact about this series…

Damage is measured by how many clothes explode off your opponents body on impact. That’s right, Aya can hit a girl in the stomach so hard, that her titties will miraculously burst through her shirt. Kick a girl in the legs, and her skirt will explode, exposing her panties. Run and tell dat, homeboy!

For the uninitiated, pointless nudity in an anime is referred to as “fan service”… And there is a decent amount in these episodes. But it isn’t pornographic and it isn’t at the level of some other series like “Sekirei” (which also boasts better artwork and animation).

As cool as the concept of exploding clothes is, the short series (only six episodes) is still pretty captivating.

The biggest issue, and possibly a deal-breaker is the end. The final episode is 20 minutes of talking in a dark room before it very abruptly ends. I don’t want to say that there is no closure… But there is definitely not enough closure.

If you search the web on this title, you will find a lot of spoiler-ridden reviews shitting all over it. Maybe I’m just not enough of an anime snob, but I thought it was rad.

If you like cartoon boobs, fighting, and gratuitous panty shots, you will (should) love “Master of Martial Hearts”.
