“Father’s Day” (2011)

Holy shit! What else is there to say?

We have been tracking the progress of “Father’s Day” since the trailer was commissioned by Troma to become a full movie over a year ago. Now it is finally completed, and after building our hopes and expectations for way too long, the finished product surpasses them all. The locations are amazing, the gore is brutal, the twists in the story are well-placed, and the gags are hilarious.

If you have been living under a rock (or don’t follow movies about dad rape), here is the gist of the story:
A serial rapist / murderer targets fathers. A one-eyed man named Ahab (played by Adam Brooks) relentlessly hunts down the “Father’s Day Killer” to seek out revenge. After being joined by a male prostitute named Twink (Conor Sweeney) and a dim priest (Matthew Kennedy ), they set out to stop the Father’s Day Killer once and for all.

This flick has a very genuine feel to it, in that nothing is done “ironically”. The actors and actresses remain super committed regardless of how ridiculous the scene is. It’s refreshingly brave to see that in a film that was produced in the 21st century, as many of today’s filmmakers seem obsessed with hiding behind irony when something bizarre occurs. Those that are familiar with the work of Astron-6 won’t be too surprised by this, as they have a unique ability to channel very natural performances from their actors. The rest of the world will be pleasantly surprised.

There is so little I can actually write about without spoiling the experience for you, but if you were a fan of the trailer, the movie will absolutely blow your mind. “Father’s Day” is a huge, action-packed, gorey, nudity filled extravaganza that will make you realize how empty your life really was before you watched it. Literally one of the bravest films of the year.

I don’t have a single complaint. That said, I realize this film is not for everybody. If you aren’t into boobs, dicks, blood, and man-on-man rape, you will probably be repulsed by this.

If you can handle that, catch this movie at any cost. Troma scored by producing this one. They have a masterpiece on their hands.

I just can’t wait to see what Astron-6 comes up with next…
