Our good buddies at Cinesploitation.com broke the news earlier today, so you can either get the rundown there or read on for the press release:

CouchCutter.com is thrilled to announce our next original series: FLESH – TALES OF SEXUAL HORROR. This extreme horror anthology will feature original shorts by Trent Haaga (“Deadgirl”), Ryan Nicholson (“Gutterballs”, “Hanger”), James Anthony Bickert (“Dear God No!”), Drew Bolduc (“The Taint”), Logan Myers (“Mondo Sexxxx: The Terry Kobrah Story”), and more. The series kicks off on Valentine’s Day 2013 and is currently scheduled to run for 8 weeks.

“This is what we’re all about.” says site owner and show creator, David Anthony, “We’re an independent organization with no corporate backers, hiring the most demented independent filmmakers we can find to produce something that corporate mainstream genre cinema and television cannot show you. The directors and producers we currently have lined up are bad motherfuckers. They don’t know how to throttle back. If you don’t want to be psychologically scarred and violated, just sit this one out. Fans of any of these guys know that I’m not bullshitting.”

“Pre-screener” tickets are currently available here. These tickets afford the owner a link to watch episodes before they are available to the rest of the public during special V.I.P. one-night only online screenings in early 2013. Each ticket-holder will also be automatically entered to win an amazing one-of-a-kind limited edition VHS of the series signed and designed by some of the filmmakers along with an amazing mystery bag with all kind of “FLESH” related goodies.

Proceeds from the ticket sales go to the filmmakers as they are working on extremely small budgets.

“These guys fucking love the genre. The budget we’re giving them is pathetic. And not because we’re greedy! We’re fucking broke, I promise you. But these motherfuckers are real filmmakers. They are breaking their backs to produce quality extreme horror entertainment for the fans, period. It *costs* them money at the end of the day. We’re not using the money from pre-screener tickets for anything other than paying for the production of the series, so if this kind of perverse shit does it for you, we are providing a very tangible and affordable way to show your support.”

Three of the eight filmmakers have yet to be announced. Those announcements are expected soon.

“We’re working on the perfect way to round out this amazing roster. If we get our way, extreme horror fans will be happy with our final three.”

This week features the first ever Drunk on VHS SPEED ROUND!!!! Where we devote five minutes to a movie that barely deserves one, this time out we discuss the 1964, gracing the bottom 100 on IMDB, The Creeping Terror. We revel in the silliness and laugh about the monster and how it’s mouth looks like a vagina. Then try to think of things to say because the movie can be summed up in one sentence. “Fun, but utterly awful”

Bloody Disgusting Selects Acquires Trent Haaga’s ‘CHOP’

Trent Haaga’s masterful directorial debut has just been picked up for U.S. distribution by Bloody Disgusting Selects. The film will be available for VOD and DVD later in the year.

From Bloody-Disgusting.com:

“The pic, which carries a finale you have to see to believe, is “a revenge thriller with a comedic edge that centers on a seemingly innocent young couple, forced by a psychotic stranger to confront their duplicitous past.”

Chop was an official selection of the Boston Underground Film Festival, Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival, Grimm Up North Film Festival and Dead by Dawn Film Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. It also received the “Director’s Choice Feature Award” at the Boston Underground Film Festival. It’ll be screening at the 6th Annual FantaSpoa Film Festival in Brazil in July.”

I couldn’t be more excited, as I kind of think this film is awesome!

Notes from the Set: ‘Father’s Day’ Blog #5

Adam Brooks is back with perhaps the most insightful update from the set of Troma and Astron-6′s “Father’s Day” yet!

The poster was done by The Dude, and we at Astron-6 are all VERY happy with it. He did an amazing job.

The story behind Father’s Day hasn’t been well publicized, but here it is in a nutshell -

We made a fake trailer to a movie that we never intended to make. Troma liked it and offered to produce a feature length version. There has been some confusion as to why we have been releasing teaser trailers and whatnot when the long trailer came out one year ago… The recent teasers are for the actual movie. The movie has most of the stuff from the original trailer, (but not all) and the story IS NOT a simple revenge film that ends with a guy getting beaten with a brick. Take my word for it – Father’s Day is an insane, off the wall, epic adventure movie. i can’t wait for you guys to see it. there is nothing like it out there and i promise it’s not a hobo-wannabe.

Stay tuned for ANOTHER POSTER from another famous, and extremely talented artist. She made my favorite movie poster of all time… That is the only hint for now.

Attached is an EXCLUSIVE photo of me doing a recent fire stunt. It turns out fire is very predictable and safe, and fire stunts are really a breeze. Who knew?

New ‘Doctor Who’ Trailer Online

I realize that this is a little mainstream when compared to the bulk of content we post here, but it’s British, not Hollywood. That makes it okay. Well, that and the fact that Doctor Who is freaking awesome!

Series 6 will kick off on April 23rd here in the states on BBC America, and is apparently premiering on Easter in the UK.

…And Now They Want to Remake ‘Suspiria’

“Pineapple Express” and “Your Highness” director, David Gordon Green has decided that he wants to branch out into horror.

“I’m hopefully going to get into a horror film, [‘Suspiria’] next. That’s the goal,” Green said about lining up the remake of the Dario Argento psych-horror classic as his next feature. “It’s an idea that came to me three years ago…That was an enlightening process. [Our ‘Suspiria’] doesn’t follow the trend of the traditional horror movies of late, so it’s a leap of faith, financially.”

Well, being that it is a remake, it does sort of follow the horror trends of late. And you know what would really be a leap, financially? Coming up with your own idea for a movie. No disrespect to Green, but portraying this move as some form of exercise in trailblazing is absurd.

On the bright side, Hollywood will inevitably run out of films to remake someday. At which point they will begin to remake their remakes.

‘Night of the Punks’ (2010)

Dan Riesser’s short film, “Night of the Punks” is a fast-paced romp following a punk band on their first “road gig”. They show up to the gig to find out they will be playing for a bunch of murderous demons… And that’s the plot in a nutshell. It’s only twenty minutes long, so it’s tough to get into specifics without spoilers.

The characters are very stereotypical, which isn’t completely annoying since the overall feel of Riesser’s short is pretty goofy. But I have to say that the story seems like it was written by someone that has very limited firsthand experience in the punk rock scene or gigging in general. There are really forced (and often inaccurate) references to genre bands, which I suppose are there to express legitimacy, but it accomplishes the opposite.

There is a lot of good to be said for this film as well. The gore is excellent, they incorporate some great gags, and the soundtrack is surprisingly solid. It’s funny, and more importantly when talking about films that will primarily be screened at festivals, it is fun! There is also some good CGI, which is wisely used sparingly as 90% of the effects in this film are practical.

Overall, though it’s not perfect, “Night of the Punks” is a really fun ride. I am extremely interested in seeing more of Riesser as he has a unique style that I enjoy very much. The word is that Riesser hopes to make NOTP a full-length, which I think is fully capable of doing well.

Seriously!? White ‘Akira’

So, there is a big Hollywood live-action remake of the Anime classic “Akira” on the horizon, and the powers that be have found a way to f*ck it up before the first frame is shot.

What am I pissing and moaning about this time? First of all, the story will take place in Neo-Manhattan as opposed to Neo-Tokyo. So we trade in the majestic hyper-technological backdrop of Neo-Tokyo for Times Square.

I suppose it is to be expected, though. It’s cheaper to film it in New York and it’s easier to for the absent-minded mainstream American audiences to relate to… At least there is a huge Asian population in Manhattan, so it won’t be hard to work the original characters into the story.

But according to Racebending.com, the front runners for the roles of Tetsuo and Kaneda are WHITE DUDES!!! And yes, they are using the original Japanese names.

WHAT!?

Will our teen biker gang will pretty boys from the “f*ckin’ Bronx”, riding Harleys, feuding with Ruff Ryders from Harlem? What kind of bullsh*t Oliver Stone’s “Romeo and Juliet” kind of re-imagining is this story going to be!?
