With the upcoming rape remake of Evil Dead on the way, some friends and I decided to take the trip to Tennessee to commit criminal trespass visit the site where the first film took place. Now anyone that’s researched the cabin knows that its difficult as hell to find the exact location of the place. The reason is that it’s on private property and people that visit often take bricks from the chimney as souvenirs which we totally did oh who am I kidding, which we totally did.

O.k. it’s Morristown Tennessee….but after that you’re on your own!
At some point between the filming and 1989 a storm ripped much of the tin roof off the cabin, it now lies strewn about on the ground. In 1989 the place burned to the ground. Sam Raimi says lightening did it. Bruce Campbell suggested drunken yocals burned it on accident. I like to think it was both.

Speaking of Yocals, near the site we saw this guy using a tree as an engine hoist ‘MERICA!!!
As was said the exact location is hard to find online BUT IT IS THERE, you just have to search. And NO I WON’T TELL YOU finding the info online was half the fun! Anyway there was snow on the ground as we approached the all too familiar path into the woods…
The path itself is HELLA short. In the film they filmed the car driving down the path in both directions to make it seem longer and more ominous.
Fans will already know this as well, but the fruit cellar was shot on a different location. A small hole was dug and the floor cut out above it for the cellar in the movie. That hole remains, though it was probably dug deeper later by someone looking for the rumored EVIL DEAD TIME CAPSULE which if it ever existed at all is no doubt long gone.

SOMEONE’S IN MY FRUIT CELLA-Oops that was part 2.
Now I mentioned before that part of the reason people try to keep the location secret is that people tend to steal bricks from the remaining chimney. Here’s what I mean…

A friend at the location in 2003

There are a couple of other locations fairly near the cabin’s remains, most notably the remains of the bridge that Ash drives over. It’s roughly 45 minutes to an hour away and as you can see it’s not super breathtaking….

Things happened here once.
BUT if you drink your milk, brush your teeth, study hard, say no to drugs, and are really REALLY lucky……you may just find a surprise near the Evil Dead Bridge….WE SURE DID!
